Founded in 1923 as Linthorpe Lawn Tennis Club, locate in Reeth Road, Middlesbrough consisting of five Shale Courts, a pavilion, changing rooms and bar. During the early 1970's club membership stood at approximately 100 being predominately seniors. The Shale Courts required maintenance and could only be played April to October. In 1975 the club hosted the Middlesbrough Junior Open Tournament which is now in it's 35th Year. This provided the basis for a substantial Junior Membership. As the courts required substantial refurbishment the club decided to relocate. Middlesbrough Council were determined to boost a high standard Tennis facility in the area and in 1983 Membership increased and the club flourished using a caravan as a shelter.
In 1985 the club president Foster Garton (Who still plays Tennis) proposed to build an Indoor Tennis facility as a private venture to be known as TENNIS WORLD! With further loans from the L.T.A (Lawn Tennis Association) and sports council (both repaid) three further artificial grass courts were laid. On 13th December 1986 the four Indoor court facility with lounge, bar and changing faculties opened as TENNIS WORLD! In 1989 the members bought the Indoor facility with assistance from the local brewery, the council, Barclay's bank and the L.T.A. During 2002 the club completed the refurbishment and reconstruction of its Outdoor facility as follow: 3 Cushion Performance Courts 3 Artificial Grass Courts 4 Floodlit Clay Courts
